Roes

Online Catalogue | Roes

From cod roe to caviar

Cod roe is a seasonal treat - look out for it! If you'd like to be kept up to date with its arrival in the shop in the winter, let's have your e-mail address and we'll let you know when it's available. Like cod roe, herring roe is another traditional treat. Salmon eggs (bright orange) and lumpfish roe (black) are often used for decoration. Then there's caviar - like it or not, it's got a name for luxury. Our Avruga "caviar" is now often used instead, it's phenominally cheaper!

Fresh cod roe

Fresh cod roe

Ref: 2028

Quantity:

Fresh cod roe is in season from Christmas to Easter, so it's now out of season. It needs to be boiled before you eat it, and we will wrap it for you ready to boil. Put the roe in salted boiling water and then simmer for about 10 minutes. Drain it, then leave it to cool, when you can eat it cold or slice it, coat it in seasoned flour and fry until the outside is nicely browned - this is a traditional ingredient of an Irish breakfast. If you'd rather that your cod roe was ready cooked, order the next item. 500g (1lb 1oz)
